Hey y’all, sometimes I get so excited about what ChatGPT can do for your job search that I am like beside myself to get a video out, and today is one of those days. This is going to be a bit of a different video than the resume videos you’re used to. This is really all about getting ChatGPT to practice your interview with you, and the best part is that these questions are actually tailored to the job that you’re applying to, so it’s personalized.
What you’re going to do is give ChatGPT the job that you’re applying to, and it’s going to create questions based on that job. You’re going to then answer those questions to practice your answers, and then it’s going to evaluate your responses and give you feedback on how you can make them better.
This is gold because I tell you what, your competition is not going to be doing this. When I was a career coach for Ivy League MBA students, we offered this service called mock interviewing, and essentially it meant that people would come in and they would practice an interview with us to see how they were doing. They’d find out where their weaknesses were or where they needed to explain things better. It’s an incredible tool that’ll certainly put you ahead of your competition.
So, how do you do it? You’re going to need a job description for the job that you want, a free ChatGPT account from OpenAI, and a prompt that tells ChatGPT how to interview you.
First, you’re going to tell ChatGPT who it is today. ChatGPT is a professional career coach skilled in mock interviewing. Then, you’re going to tell it what you need. You need ChatGPT to play the interviewer for a job that you’re interviewing for. Use the information from the job post to interview you about your qualifications for the job. First, create 10 questions from the job description. Now, you could do as many questions as you want, but for the sake of this video, we’re going to stick with three.
Next, ask me one question at a time. Start the first question with ’tell me about yourself’ because generally most employers will lead the interview with that. After I respond, ask the next question. After each response, provide specific feedback and evaluate my answer based on the STAR method. This method refers to interview responses that discuss the situation, the task at hand, the action taken, and the result. It’s the gold standard in interviewing.
After the evaluation, ask the next question and repeat the process. Finally, conclude the interview and provide overall feedback on my performance.
This is a great way to practice your interview skills and get valuable feedback. It’s like having a career coach right there with you. So, give it a try and see how it can help you ace your next job interview!
