Using ChatGPT for Bariatric Meal Planning

Using ChatGPT for Bariatric Meal Planning

Have you been hearing about ChatGPT or OpenAI? What artificial intelligence can do for you? Or are you totally confused and overwhelmed? Either way, I am here to show you over the shoulder what it looks like to use ChatGPT to make bariatric-friendly menus after a weight loss surgery.

I’m Steph Wagner, a dietitian specializing in helping patients stay on track in everyday life between their follow-up appointments after gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, or any other operation. ChatGPT is a free program that can assist you in creating personalized meal plans.

You can ask the bot lots of different questions that are specific to you. The best part is that you won’t hurt its feelings, so you can ask all sorts of questions like ‘I don’t like eggs’ or ‘make a meal plan without fish’. It will do it for you.

To get started, go to chat.openai.com and create a free login. Once you’re in, you can start a chat session with the bot. You can give it prompts, provide feedback, and ask for help. The bot will provide you with meal ideas and even breakdowns of ingredients and instructions.

However, if you prefer visual inspiration, you can also use ChatGPT to get a template for your meal plan and then search for recipes on platforms like Pinterest or my website, which has over 600 recipes. You can copy and paste the recipes you like and create your own personalized menu.

One feature I find helpful is the ability to ask for ideas for theme nights. For example, you can have Taco Tuesday, Italian night, barbecue night, sushi night, or Mediterranean night. This can make meal planning more fun and less overwhelming.

Remember, there’s no perfect way to do meal planning. The goal is to get a good dinner on the table. If you feel there’s a big gap between where you are now and consistent meal planning, know that it doesn’t have to look perfect. Use tools like ChatGPT to make it faster and easier for you.

I hope this article has inspired you to explore ChatGPT for bariatric meal planning. It’s a valuable resource that can help you stay on track and make meal planning more enjoyable. Happy cooking!
