Hello there and welcome back to my channel. We all know that back to school season is super busy for teachers. You went to X-Men school too, but thankfully technology has come a long way and can now be used to save you so much time. In today’s video, I’m going to share three ways you can use artificial intelligence as a teacher to save hours planning for back to school.
Now, there are tons of AI tools available online, but in this video, we’re going to focus on ChatGPT, which is one of the most popular. If you are not familiar with ChatGPT, it is an AI tool specifically used to answer questions or complete tasks that require a text response, such as composing an email. All you need to do is visit the website, which I will have linked for you down in the description box, or you can type directly into your browser: openai.com/chatgpt.
The first way you can use ChatGPT is by drafting a meet the teacher letter for families. This is something I recommend all teachers do. Instead of writing it from scratch, you can actually use AI to create the skeleton of the letter. Of course, you’re still going to personalize it, but it gives you something to go off of. With ChatGPT open, you might type something like ‘Draft a meet the teacher letter for a fourth-grade teacher to give to families at the beginning of the school year.’ It will take a few seconds to generate, and of course, you don’t have to use every paragraph it gives you. You can kind of pick and choose what you think will work best. From here, you’re going to copy and paste that text into a template. You could open up a basic Google Doc, but personally, I like to fancy it up a little bit with some borders and clip art. By combining ChatGPT and a template, you can have your meet the teacher letter ready to go in under five minutes.
The second way you can use ChatGPT is by creating first-week-of-school activities. ChatGPT can help you generate creative ideas or examples for activities that you’ve done in the past. For example, you might type in ‘Create a list of this or that choices for elementary school students.’ It will give you some basic options, but you can always level it up by specifying a theme or asking for a silly list. This can save you time and give you unique options for your students. You can also use ChatGPT to generate scavenger hunt clues or examples of sentences with incorrect capitalization. These can be used to create engaging activities for your students.
The third way you can use ChatGPT is to batch plan for the entire year. You can use it to generate morning meeting prompts, examples or questions for lessons, or even ideas for classroom games. By prepping these materials in advance, you can save yourself time throughout the year. For example, you might type in ‘Create a list of morning meeting prompts for elementary students for each month of the year.’ Once you have those prompts, you can copy and paste them onto a set of slides or a digital planner. This way, you have them ready to go whenever you need them.
In conclusion, using artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT can be a game-changer for teachers. It can save you hours of planning time and provide you with creative ideas and examples. Whether you’re drafting letters, creating activities, or batch planning for the year, AI can help streamline your workload and make your job easier. So give it a try and see how it can benefit you as a teacher.
Thank you for watching, and don’t forget to put your positive pants on. I’ll catch you in the next one!
