Welcome back to another video about AI and how it can help you make your job easier as a teacher. In this video, I will show you how to use ChatGPT and provide examples of how I have used it in my teaching.
To get started, go to the web page chat.openai.com and sign up using your email address or Google, Microsoft, or Apple account. Once you’re logged in, you’ll see a new chat screen with examples, capabilities, and limitations of ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is like a solution to writer’s block or procrastination block. Whenever you’re stuck and don’t know what to do, you can turn to ChatGPT for ideas and inspiration. It can help you with planning your curriculum, generating topic outlines, and even creating YouTube video scripts.
One of the features I found helpful is the ability to break down concepts into smaller topics. For example, if you’re teaching Algebra 2, you can ask ChatGPT to provide a list of units and topics to cover. It may not be perfect, but it gives you a starting point and inspiration for your lesson plans.
You can also ask ChatGPT to generate practice exercises, group activities, and real-world applications for each topic. It’s like having a virtual assistant that remembers what you’ve asked and tailors its responses to your needs.
However, it’s important to note that ChatGPT has limitations. It may not always provide the correct answers, and its knowledge is limited to information available before 2021. It’s also important to review the content it generates for any biases or inaccuracies.
In conclusion, AI tools like ChatGPT can be valuable resources for teachers. They can help with planning, generating ideas, and enhancing the learning experience for students. However, it’s essential to use them as aids and not rely solely on AI for teaching. As educators, we still have the knowledge and expertise that AI lacks.
