After spending hundreds of hours researching and experimenting with AI, I have come to realize that we have only scratched the surface of its potential. In this article, I will be sharing the best prompts and workflows that I have been using to overcome information overwhelm and extract insights from my highlights. These prompts have helped me make profound connections to other ideas and existing notes. I was initially planning to charge for this knowledge, but I have decided to offer these ready-to-use prompts for free in the description below.
As a bonus, you will also get example use cases and extra prompts for applying the information you learn into creating content and starting projects. This article is the second part of a three-part series on how I use AI in my second brain. If you haven’t already, I recommend watching the first video on how to set up ChatGPT and personalized AI inside Obsidian so you can follow along with me.
The first step in the knowledge management process is capturing information. With an infinite amount of content available, it’s crucial to filter out what is relevant and avoid shallow clickbait. AI can help by summarizing the content and providing a list of key takeaways. This allows you to make an informed decision on whether the content is worth consuming.
While watching a YouTube video, for example, you can use ChatGPT to generate a detailed and complete summary of the content. By pasting the transcript into ChatGPT and using the right prompt, you will get a list of the main ideas discussed in the video. This holistic view bypasses any potential clickbait and helps you determine if the video aligns with your interests.
However, generic understanding may not be enough. Sometimes, you want to know how relevant the content is to your specific goals or interests. By including your specific criteria in the prompt, such as the main question in your mind or a problem you’re working on, you can filter the key takeaways based on your criteria. This personalized approach ensures that you extract the most relevant information.
Furthermore, AI can help you find the relevance of certain topics or questions by filtering them through your interests. By using your favorite problems as prompts, you can discover relevant ideas or answers for those specific problems. This allows you to dive deeper into the content and explore the connections to your favorite problems.
Once you have consumed the content and highlighted the key points, the next step is to process those highlights into more permanent and conceptual notes. AI can assist in formatting the highlights, improving punctuation and grammar while preserving the essence of the content. This makes it easier to work with the highlights and ensures consistency in your note-taking.
Creating conceptual notes is a fundamental part of the learning process. AI can help generate conceptual notes from your highlights, providing a structured format for your ideas. By asking AI to group the highlights based on potential note titles, you can organize your thoughts and create a hierarchy of concepts. This allows you to see the main topics and ideas at a glance.
To make your notes more connected and cohesive, you can use AI to find smart connections within your Vault. The Smart Connections plugin can suggest relevant ideas and notes based on the content of your notes. This helps you discover connections you may have missed and strengthens the web of knowledge in your second brain.
Sometimes, finding connections between existing notes can be challenging. AI can assist in finding the most relevant ideas and notes, regardless of when you took them. By using the Smart Connections plugin and the idea compass methodology, you can explore new connections and bridge the gap between different concepts.
By following these prompts and practices, you can enhance your knowledge management and note-taking workflows. AI becomes your co-pilot, providing suggestions and insights, but it’s important to critically evaluate and personalize the results. Your notes should reflect your own thinking and decision-making process.
In conclusion, AI has the potential to revolutionize how we manage and process information. By leveraging AI-powered prompts and workflows, we can overcome information overwhelm, extract meaningful insights, and create a web of interconnected knowledge. The prompts and practices shared in this article are just the beginning. As AI continues to evolve, so will our ability to unlock its full potential.
