Did you use it as a tool to learn or to achieve? Before we dive into the role of GPT, let’s check what exactly it is. GPT is an artificial intelligence tool, in other words, AI that can give you the best-developed response in any question, as if it was from an expert. It is one of the fastest-growing applications in the entire world. In the first two months of its release, over a hundred million people have been using it to do their assignments due to its easy access. However, we can easily say that it has become overrated.
What exactly did you learn from it all? All we did was type in what we want, and there you have it. Is it really worth it? At first, I thought it was too good to be true. I thought to myself, ‘Eh, it’s too good to be true anyways, right?’ But when I tried it myself, I was absolutely baffled. It was too good an opportunity to pass, and a hundred million people agree with me.
However, as a responsible student, I strongly believe that GPT should only be used as a learning tool and not for copy-pasting to do your assignments. On a positive note, Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University once said, ‘GPT is a powerful tool that can revolutionize the way we live and work. It can be used to improve research, education, entertainment, and communication.’ She believes that GPT can create a positive impact on the world.
Personally, for me, I believe GPT was created to aid everyone, especially students like myself, to generate ideas for us to use as a reference. However, nowadays, millions of students around the world have been abusing the power of GPT. Students all over the world have not only been taking advantage of it but using it to cheat. Let me ask all of you, what good will you gain from it? You will only grow up to be a lazy rascal. Not one single person in your entire life will ever respect you for taking a cheap and easy shortcut to get where you are today.
Furthermore, if you do not stop using it to cheat, I do not want that to happen to any of you. You deserve better than that. Despite all of that, there is a good portion of students who know how to use it effectively for learning. This is what we should all do and promote. Studying and learning are two different things. Learning is encouraging critical thinking, whereas studying, on the other hand, is memorizing facts.
A simple yet effective way of learning is to role-play with it, engage with it in a conversation, as you work with a human almost. This way, you will get the most out of it and get a more humanized perspective from it as well. Nevertheless, there are always new topics to learn. One of my favorite methods is to use analogies. However, thinking deeply ourselves can be quite hard and puts a heavy load on our cognitive load. Such a problem AI can fix.
All in all, these simple steps will help develop and improve your ability to do critical thinking. On another note, as we all know, GPT is not a hundred percent reliable. We should use GPT as a guide, not as a solution that will solve everything. At the end of the day, we want what’s best for us, right? So ask yourself this, if AI’s brain is developing, is yours too?
