Hey everybody, this is Paul from Screen I Mentor. Now, writing traditionally is a very solitary process. This can be a blessing and a curse at the same time. It’s a blessing that you can work through your own thoughts, but it can also be a curse because sometimes it’s good to have a second opinion. Believe me, I know that from a lot of the writing I’ve been doing.
Now, what if I told you that you could have your cake and eat it too? What if you could have a writing partner when you need it, without having to worry about taking them out to dinner or waking them up at 2 A.M in the morning because you’ve had an idea? And what if you have a writer that’s well-versed in thousands of screenplays? Well, now thanks to AI, you can.
Since AI has dashed onto the scene, writers, especially screenwriters, have been really worried about the implications to their craft. This is one of the things that the Screenwriters of America are striking about, the studios’ use of AI and having AI replace them. But I wonder though, if AI is sort of like screenwriting software. When screenwriting software came out, it changed the landscape. Now, if we see AI as a tool, I think it will help us as screenwriters make better decisions in writing, help us to write faster, give us new sparks to spark ideas off of, and allow us to stay unstuck. I think this is going to be great for writer’s block, talking to a writing partner that can help you keep those juices flowing and help you get to that next level.
Recently, I’ve talked to Oliver, one of the screenwriters on the hit series ‘Golden Life’, which comes to us from HBO Europe. Now, he’s come up with an excellent, inexpensive product for helping us get the most out of the ChatGPT prompt. Today, we’re going to look at this product and how it helped me personally on my screenwriting project.
Before we go any further, I want people to know that I’m not getting anything from this product in terms of compensation. Yes, I did get a review copy, but I am not getting compensated at all. The reason why I’m bringing this to you is because I think it works well and I think it will really help you understand your story better. In addition, it’s also to help you to start to begin to work with AI, to have a better relationship with AI, because AI is not going away. So, how as writers do we engage and embrace AI and use it to its best potential? I think this prompt is one of the beginning tools that we can use to help us get the most out of ChatGPT and out of AI in general.
So, first thing we’re gonna do is go to Storyworks and purchase this. The ChatGPT prompt, the ultimate screenwriting prompt, is $19.99. I think it will really help you do exactly what it says. It leads you through a series of questions to turn your rough ideas into fully fleshed out stories.
Now, let’s talk about editing. There are two ways to edit: soft edit and hard edit. Soft edit allows you to edit an answer provided by the AI by using your words to express your desired changes. However, you need to be very precise because the AI won’t know what you’re thinking. Hard edit, on the other hand, allows you to go back and modify your input. But be aware that editing a previous answer results in the deletion of all subsequent questions and answers, effectively restarting the conversation from that specific point.
Now, let’s get to the exciting part. I’ve been struggling with the ending of the script I’m working on, and this prompt helped me figure out what I could call it. I’m actually going to call it ‘Spiral’. It also helped me brainstorm a synopsis for my movie, which was nice. But the best part was when it helped me with character growth and arcs. It gave me ideas and sparked my creativity.
So, if you’re stuck with writer’s block, if you’re struggling to piece your story together, or if you just need someone to bounce ideas off of, I highly recommend giving this ChatGPT prompt a try. It’s a valuable tool that can help you overcome obstacles and develop your story in a unique way. And remember, writing is a journey, and AI can be your companion along the way.
Well, until the next video, live well and write well!
