The Limitations of ChatGPT in Improving English Speaking Skills

Hey everyone, welcome back to our channel! Today, we are going to talk about chatGPT and how it can help us improve our speaking skills in English. Before we dive deeper into this topic, I hope you all liked my previous video on learning English without studying grammar rules. ChatGPT can be a fantastic tool when it comes to learning English. We can ask it various questions about English, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. For example, you can type a simple English sentence, and it can quickly correct your spelling mistakes and even help with your grammar errors. It’s a great way to learn from your mistakes and improve your writing skills. It’s like having a personal English teacher.

However, starting a conversation with chatGPT might not be the most user-friendly option. When I tried talking to chatGPT, I realized that it doesn’t have feelings or emotions. It can provide general information, similar to what you would find on a Wikipedia page. It’s not quite user-friendly when it comes to starting a conversation. So, it’s important to remember that chatGPT doesn’t have emotions and feelings, making it difficult to have a natural conversation with it.

For instance, if you ask chatGPT a simple daily usage question like ‘How are you?’, it will answer by saying that it doesn’t have personal preferences and emotions. It is here to assist you with any questions or information you may need. So, it’s a challenge to have a conversation with chatGPT since it doesn’t understand or care about human emotions.

Interestingly, if you want to practice, chatGPT can assist you in creating role-play dialogues. However, it may not work as effectively in real-time situations. If you genuinely want to improve your English speaking skills, it’s important to have face-to-face conversations. If you don’t find a speaking partner, you can use online apps like iTalki and Cambly, where you can have real-time experiences with native speakers.

Here is a friendly reminder: don’t fall into the trap of practicing English just by typing on chatGPT. In the real world, you have to be able to speak spontaneously and instantly. Both body language and social skills are important factors in successful communication. While chatGPT can be a valuable tool to enhance your English writing and grammar skills, it can’t replace real human interaction. It’s important to engage in conversation with real people to truly master English speaking.

That wraps up today’s video. We hope you find this information helpful. If you enjoyed it, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel, ‘Break the Rules in English,’ for more exciting content like this. Thank you for watching!
