The Journey of a YouTube Creator

The Journey of a YouTube Creator

For this video to get 847,000 views, but here’s what’s wild. Mary jumps on YouTube and starts making videos when she’s 60. Now she’s 65, and we’ve had 943,000 subscribers. She’s gonna get a gold play button this year. She already has her silver play button. She has got a cookbook from Random House, a book deal, and so she found out that YouTube is ultimately the best way to impact the world with her message and her content. From wherever you are, her vision is that whether your kitchen is in a city or an apartment or a house in the suburbs or a farmhouse in the country, anyone can join her in preserving traditional cooking skills and finding joy as modern pioneers in the kitchen.

But this is my story of answering specific questions, the ASQ method. I grew up in a small town on six acres an hour north of Seattle in a place called Arlington, Washington, where everyone wore Carhartt clothes at my school. Not because they were cool and hipster, but because they worked outside, like they actually did physical labor. I was a farm boy who liked rap and punk rock, import cars, and Fast and Furious. I always felt like I didn’t fit in because of my interests and background.

I got into video by volunteering at my local church in 2003. I started making videos for my youth group and the church. They were not great, but I learned from them. I gained the courage to start my own YouTube channel and not just make videos for the church. I remember uploading my first video, and it was terrible. But I didn’t let that stop me. I committed to learning new skills and improving my content.

I started answering specific questions in my videos, like how to get started in video production and video editing. I shared tips and insights based on my experience. I focused on providing value to my viewers and addressing their needs. I learned the importance of keyword research to identify popular topics and optimize my content for search. By answering specific questions and continuously learning, I saw my channel grow and my videos reach more people.

The journey of a YouTube creator is not always easy. It requires dedication, continuous learning, and a commitment to providing value to your audience. But if you’re willing to put in the effort and embrace the ASQ method, you can make a meaningful impact with your content. So, start before you’re ready, commit to learning new skills, and answer specific questions that resonate with your audience. Remember, your first videos may not be your best, but with time and practice, you can improve and achieve success on YouTube.
