The Impact of ChatGPT on Education

The Impact of ChatGPT on Education

So first, we would be totally naive if we don’t think Chad government is already using our system. In that respect, we are looking at Chad government as the new Google. Now, we do not have all of the answers as to how to manage it, but we do have a district team that is working very closely on how to utilize this tool to enrich the educational process for children.

You’re listening to the District Talk segment, where we interview district leaders to learn how they’re keeping students safe on social media so that those students can someday shine online. Now, let’s get back to the interview.

Josh: Good morning! My name is Luis Valentino, and I am the superintendent of the Coachella Valley New Fight School District. We’re located in the Coachella Valley, two hours east of Los Angeles. We have approximately 17,000 students in an area covering 1200 square miles.

Dr. Lamar Gorey: Hi, I’m Dr. Lamar Gorey, the superintendent of Cattle Parish Public Schools in Shreveport, Louisiana. We’re a system of about 35,000 students serving them in 55 schools.

William Wright: Hi, I’m William Wright, superintendent of Sumter School District in South Carolina. We are in the southeastern part of the United States. Sumter School District is pretty much in the center of the state of South Carolina, and we have 27 schools that serve close to 15,000 students.

Josh: How is your school district approaching ChatGPT?

Luis Valentino: ChatGPT is a tool, like the internet was when it first came on. It requires education on the front end, clear expectations on how it’s supposed to be used, and measurable consequences for misuse. We have chosen not to shut it down because there will always be a workaround. Our job is to educate and make sure we utilize the tool properly.

Dr. Lamar Gorey: We’re not anti-ChatGPT at all. We just have to figure out how to use it and make sure it doesn’t become a replacement for the creativity that students need. It should be an enhancement, not a replacement.

William Wright: We’re still in the learning phase of using ChatGPT as a tool. We understand that we have to change the way we assess and measure the work that students are doing. Teachers have to be familiar with what the tool can and cannot do in order to make those adjustments.

Josh: Are you changing any of your techniques for grading students and the types of assignments being used?

Luis Valentino: We haven’t made any major changes yet, but we’re reviewing it every day. We understand that the way we assess and measure will change with ChatGPT. We want to make sure that every child has access to it and that it becomes a part of a rich educational experience.

Dr. Lamar Gorey: We’re going to have to make adjustments and provide professional development for our teachers. We want to make sure that we’re using ChatGPT properly and that there is no abuse of it.

William Wright: We want to make sure that we’re using ChatGPT as a comparative writing instrument. Students can write their paper, and then compare and contrast it with what ChatGPT generates. It can be a valuable tool for students to improve their writing.

In conclusion, ChatGPT has the potential to enrich the learning process in the classroom. However, it is important for teachers and administrators to work together to understand how to use it properly and ensure that it is accessible to all students. By embracing ChatGPT as a tool for education, we can enhance the educational experience and prepare students for success in the digital age.
