One when a student’s struggling, sometimes the chatGPT tool is a great way when they’re looking at writing or ideas for presentations to generate those ideas to help inform them or lead them in a certain direction. Another way that is helpful is sometimes not all kids are eager to ask a question in class, and so it’s a resource for them when to inform their own learning. It’s really how you use it as a tool, it shouldn’t replace what you’re doing, it should merely support what you’re doing. When AI started to explode on the scene, we had a huge superintendent conference day and our administrative team began the day by creating awareness and exposure and showing all of our teachers throughout the district how to use the tool. Teachers have been using it, students have been using it, and we’ve had some groups over the summer working on trying to figure out a way to use this in our classrooms. We recognize that students still have access on their personal devices even if we blocked it from our district Network. We do not block any of the AI sites. It’s a huge time save for teachers and for administrators because it gives you a framework for language that helps craft different communications and it also can give you structures around lesson planning that perhaps you never thought of before. It’s a way for me to communicate and to organize my thinking with speed that didn’t exist before. It’s a resource for students to generate ideas and inform their own learning. It’s a tool that can be incorporated into knowledge utilization and help students reach a higher level. It’s an opportunity to grow and evolve in education. We want to make sure that our students have the ability to use AI ethically and in a way that informs their intellect and their human creativity. It’s about developing critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and citizenship skills. It’s about using AI as a tool to help support student thinking and instruction. It’s about reshaping how we think about grading and assessments to truly measure student understanding and mastery of content. It’s about assessing original learning and student knowledge. It’s about using AI to level up our curriculum and provide meaningful and relevant learning experiences for our students. It’s about preparing our students for the future and the world they will enter. It’s about embracing the opportunities that AI and tools like chatGPT provide and using them to enhance education. It’s about working with our staff to come up with innovative and creative ways to address grading and fairness. It’s about reshaping what we ask our kids to do to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge. It’s about using AI as a tool to help support student thinking and instruction. It’s about using AI ethically and in a way that promotes student growth and success. It’s about using AI to inform our work and create resources that support student learning. It’s about using AI to help students develop critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and citizenship skills.
