The Impact of ChatGPT and AI in Learning and Development

Foreign

Hi there, my name is Jennifer Bailey and I am here today with David Kelly, CEO of the Learning Guild, to pick his brain and learn more about his thoughts around the deafening buzz of both chatGPT and AI-created content within Learning and Development. David, thank you so much for joining me today.

Great, so let’s start off with a short introduction of your current role with the Learning Guild and how you’ve seen things evolve within the industry over the past few years.

Sure, my role as the CEO of the Learning Guild is to keep my finger on the pulse of what’s going on in the industry. We host a number of different professional development resources that people can use to develop skills and stay on top of the curve. In many ways, a big part of my job is keeping my finger on the pulse of what’s going on in the world of learning and technology and helping people make sense of it and put it into practice.

Great, great. So chatGPT and AI are all over LinkedIn and industry blogs, and you see it everywhere, right? How would you say both of these are impacting L&D’s future?

I think there are a couple of different ways to answer that. ChatGPT is a form of AI, and I think that they are both incredibly powerful tools. AI is going to be larger than generative AI, which chatGPT is an example of. ChatGPT is a good first example of how AI is going to impact our work, enabling us to offload tasks that machines can do better. It’s going to be transformative, not just in terms of automation, but also in terms of larger scopes of AI. ChatGPT can help us focus more on the human element of the work we do.

That’s interesting. You know about Bongo, right? We are a video assessment tool, and lots of people see chatGPT as a threat. But knowing what you know about Bongo, how do you see it not being a threat to a product like Bongo?

For me, the first word that comes to mind is scale. Bongo provides personalized objective feedback to learners, allowing them to practice and refine their skills asynchronously. It’s amazing how AI, powered by generative AI, can provide valuable feedback in real time. It’s not just about automation; it’s about leveraging AI to enhance the human element. Tools like Bongo can scale effective assessment and coaching to people, transforming organizations.

That’s really cool to hear. It’s great to see how different organizations are leveraging AI to make their technology better. So, David, do you think robots will take over the world?

I think if there’s something that a robot can do better than a human, then it should. We should embrace it and not resist it. Robots should take over aspects of our world, and it’s already moving so fast. It’s really exciting to see how chatGPT and AI develop in the learning world and what different organizations will come out with. Thank you for joining me today to chat about this topic.

Thank you.
