According to the estimate of water consumption presented by researchers at Microsoft, which is partnered with OpenAI, it consumed a whopping 185,000 gallons of water in training GPT-3 alone. To put things in perspective, it is equivalent to the amount of water needed to cool a nuclear reactor. UAE and South Africa countries are already struggling with not enough water. This extra demand can make the water shortage even worse.
