So you are using ChatGPT regularly and feel like a pro, but are still having challenges with the responses feeling a little too generic at times. What if you could get tailor-made responses that speak to your individual needs? Keep watching this Promptly AI video to learn how. And as a bonus, if you watch this video right to the end, you will learn about how to input context and designate output criteria.
Let’s start by looking at our first example. I created a Persona named Alex, who is an adventure lover and is looking for some travel inspiration. As you can see, I’ve input Alex’s contextual data in the top box, which we’ll call box C or the context box. Below that, in the bottom box, let’s call it box O, we have entered some details for the type of output we want to get back from ChatGPT and the Kayak plugin.
In the demo, Alex Persona is asking for the Kayak ChatGPT plugin to help plan a short trip for her. If you remember from the custom instruction information in box C for Alex, her likes include traveling, outdoor activities, and being an adrenaline junkie. Her dislikes, also listed in box C, include wasting time, boring tours, and sitting on the beach doing nothing. Alex is a traveler who likes to stay busy and really enjoys activities that raise her pulse. ChatGPT and the Kayak plugin use these likes and dislikes when answering the prompts from the Persona because they’re entered into the context box in the custom instructions section.
In our upcoming demo, I’ll show you what this same process looks like without that information being entered. If you look closely, I intentionally did not provide a lot of information when ChatGPT and the Kayak plugin asked me for clarification because I wanted to see how much it would pull from the custom instructions before an error came up. But instead of stopping, it actually helped make decisions that I believe would have been in line with what the Persona would have chosen.
As I mentioned in this short demo, you will notice that I tried to follow a very similar approach to the last one, with the one key difference being that I turned off the custom instructions so that ChatGPT and the Kayak plugin could not use that information for context. I still asked for the same things that I had done in the first demo, but regrettably, this time ChatGPT and the Kayak plugin were not able to move past the initial prompts because there simply wasn’t enough contextual information in order to provide responses for planning the trip.
Now that you have seen the difference between the responses from ChatGPT and the Kayak plugin when there is and is not information entered into the custom instructions fields, let’s explain each box. Box C, or the context box, should contain anything pertinent to what you need ChatGPT and all the plugins you are using to remember. Examples can be name, age, location, gender, likes, dislikes, profession, goals, etc. For this video, I wanted to keep the examples fairly straightforward, but you can get really specific and granular with the context box if needed.
Now, let’s look at box O, or the output box, to wrap up today’s episode. Box O is asking you as the user how you would like ChatGPT and/or any plugins you may be using to respond and what style of output you would like. Some examples that you can input into this box include tone, response length, response word choice or style, whether you want to be addressed in a professional manner or a more casual manner, whether you want ChatGPT to make assumptions or seek clarification first, etc. Both fields have a 1500 character limit at the time of this recording, so you are really able to provide as much or as little custom information as you like. Test out different ideas and combinations to see how they will work for you, and if you want to share, I would love to see some posted in the comments section below.
The possibilities with ChatGPT’s custom instructions are extensive, whether it’s for business, study, travel, or just for curiosity. You have the power to get exactly what you want based on the information provided in box C and box O.
