Welcome back to Quick Bits for the week of July 10th through the 14th. There is a lot to catch up on in Idaho in the Corey Richards case out of Utah, along with other topics we touched on. Plus, there’s a podcast about McMars and Motley Crue. Let’s dive into it.
First, if you are not signed up for Law and Order alerts, head over to launderalert.com to get signed up. Now, let’s talk about the latest updates in the Corey Richards case.
In Idaho, there are a couple of things happening in the Brian Coburger prosecution. The defense has made motions regarding the seating of the grand jury, and most of the grand jury documents have been turned over. The judge has put a stay on the case for 37 days, meaning the prosecution has to bring Brian Coburger to trial within six months plus 37 days. The defense still needs to turn over any alibi defenses, witnesses, or evidence by the end of July.
In Utah, the Corey Richards case continues to unfold. Corey Richards is accused of killing her husband with fentanyl in a Moscow Mule and then writing a children’s book about grief using his name and likeness. There are three notable civil lawsuits connected to this case. One is the settling of the deceased estate, where the estate is suing Corey Richards over the book and likeness rights. Another lawsuit is Corey Richards suing the estate, claiming her prenuptial agreement stands and the estate needs to turn over funds to her. The third lawsuit is the estate making a motion under the Slayer Statute, stating that Corey Richards cannot profit from the murder of her husband.
Moving on to other news, there is a lawsuit between McMars and Motley Crue. McMars is alleging that Motley Crue is pushing him out of the band, and the lawsuit might be pushed into arbitration.
Lastly, there is a lawsuit involving Sarah Silverman and OpenAI. The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI’s large language models, such as ChatGPT and Llama, are being trained on copyrighted works. The question of copyright boundaries in the world of AI and large language models is being raised.
These are just some of the highlights from the week. For more in-depth coverage, check out my YouTube channel and podcast. Stay tuned for more updates!
