The first news for today is that Microsoft has committed to assume legal responsibility for the code generated by their GitHub co-pilot. GitHub co-pilot is an extension that developers can install on their coding environment, such as VS Code, to get AI-generated suggestions for code. Microsoft is saying that they are ready to take legal responsibility for the suggestions generated by GitHub co-pilot.
In other news, more companies have committed to the White House AI Safety Accord. Earlier, it was signed by Meta, Google, and OpenAI. Now, it has been joined by Adobe, Nvidia, IBM, and five other AI companies. This accord promises to develop responsible AI.
Moving on to Google, they are introducing a new feature for ad campaigns. Advertisers will now need to disclose whether the content in their ad campaign is AI-generated or not. Google will develop technical mechanisms, such as watermarks, to ensure users know when content is generated by AI.
Amazon has also made a disclosure rule for self-publishers. If content is generated by AI, self-publishers must declare it. Amazon has also restricted self-publishers from uploading more than three books a day, as there were concerns about the high-speed generation of books using AI.
AI chatbots require a lot of water to stay cool. The enormous server farms that run AI processes generate a lot of heat, and water is used to cool down the servers. A researcher from the University of California estimates that OpenAI uses 16 ounces of water for every 5 to 50 queries.
A MIT student named J is using AI to design buildings with less concrete. Concrete is a material that contributes to 8% of total greenhouse gas emissions. J uses topology optimization to create structures that meet a building’s performance requirements while consuming a minimal amount of resources.
In the medical industry, Opum Virtual Clinic software is providing a lung cancer prediction score based on a standard CT scan result. This score helps in early detection of lung cancer, which can significantly increase the chances of survival.
OpenAI has given ChatGPT access to the entire internet via Bing. This means that ChatGPT can now access the latest updates and information from the internet to provide more accurate and up-to-date responses.
