Hey there! Let me introduce you to my current favorite use of chatGPT. Something I find incredibly exciting and use daily, it’s called Talk to ChatGPT. And it’s one of the coolest things you can do with chatGPT. The best part? It’s entirely free!
Talk to ChatGPT is an extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It lets you have spoken conversations with chatGPT using your voice, and you can even listen to the AI’s responses in a natural conversational tone. Imagine having your very own personal assistant, somewhat like Iron Man’s Jarvis. It’s not just fun, but also incredibly helpful for elderly individuals and people with disabilities who might have difficulty typing.
Here’s the kicker: this extension has an additional awesome feature that I’ll dive into later in the article, so stick around until the end to make sure you don’t miss out.
First things first, let’s install the Chrome extension. To do this, we’ll head to the appropriate link for Talk to ChatGPT on GitHub, which you can find in the article description. GitHub provides all the essential information, descriptions, and download links for the extension. Scroll down to the ‘How to Install’ section, and we’re interested in option two. This is because the newer version of the extension can’t be downloaded directly from the Chrome web store. However, you’ll find a link to the manual installation guide on the GitHub page as well.
We’ll go through the installation process together. Start by downloading the corresponding zip file. To install the extension manually, unzip it first. Then follow these steps:
- Open Chrome settings using the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select ‘Extensions’. Alternatively, you can open extensions using Chrome extensions.
- If not done already, enable developer mode.
- Click on ‘Load Unpacked’ and select the folder where you unzipped the extension. Make sure to select the folder containing the Manifest file.

ChatGPT will respond to your spoken queries, but it gets even cooler. If you visit elevenlabs.io, sign up for a free account, and grab your API key from your profile, you can use it to enable 11 labs in chatGPT. Then you can choose from a variety of voices, like Emily, to make your interactions even more lifelike.
In a nutshell, it’s like having a conversation with a real person. You can even experiment with different voices, including a whisper option for added fun.
