Introducing Custom Instructions for ChatGPT

Introducing Custom Instructions for ChatGPT

Hello everyone, welcome back! OpenAI has introduced a new feature for ChatGPT called Custom Instructions. This feature gives you more control over your interactions with ChatGPT. Imagine having specific preferences for ChatGPT’s response. With custom instructions, you can set these preferences once and they will be remembered for all your future conversations. No more repetitions! Let’s dive into the details.

First, it’s important to note that Custom Instructions is currently available in beta for Plus users only, but it will be rolled out soon for everyone. Unfortunately, it is not available in the UK and EU as of now.

You can edit and delete your custom instructions anytime. These instructions will be used if you are using third-party plugins, so be sure not to put anything you don’t want to share with third parties.

One of the most frequently asked questions is about the character limit for custom instructions. You can use up to 1500 characters to describe your instructions.

To enable Custom Instructions, go to your ChatGPT settings, then navigate to the Beta Features section. Enable the toggle button for Custom Instructions. Once enabled, you will see the Custom Instructions option in your settings.

In the Custom Instructions section, you can provide two instructions: ‘What would you like ChatGPT to know?’ and ‘How would you like ChatGPT to respond?’. These instructions allow you to define your preferences for ChatGPT’s knowledge and response.

Let’s look at some examples. Suppose I am a cloud enthusiast learning AWS. My first instruction could be: ‘I am Mr. Ashutosh Srivastava, a cloud enthusiast learning AWS. Always greet me first and then provide me with AWS-based architecture. Explain the rationale behind the design in tabular format with pros and cons.’

Remember, whenever you change your instructions, you need to start a new chat to reflect the changes.

Now, let’s see how ChatGPT responds to our instructions. I will ask a simple question without any specific instructions for greetings or formatting. As you can see, ChatGPT follows the custom instructions we set and provides an answer based on that.

Another example is setting instructions for a poetic and dramatic response. You can specify that you love William’s XPO and want ChatGPT to reply in his poetic and dramatic language. When you ask a question, ChatGPT will respond accordingly.

Custom Instructions also work with third-party plugins. For example, let’s say we have a plugin called Web Pilot. We can set instructions for this plugin as well. When we ask a question related to the plugin, ChatGPT will search the web and provide us with the relevant information.

Custom Instructions have a wide range of use cases, including language learning, localization, novel writing, and more. You can set the tone, character, response format, and writing style according to your needs.

That’s all for today, guys! If you liked this video, hit the like and subscribe button and share it with your friends. Stay tuned for more exciting content. Thank you!
