Introducing Custom Instructions for ChatGPT

Introducing Custom Instructions for ChatGPT

ChatGPT has introduced a highly anticipated feature called custom instructions for chat. This feature allows users to personalize their interactions with chatGPT and specify how they want it to respond. The feature will be rolled out to all plus users this week.

Custom instructions are essential because they address a common problem with long conversations. Due to token limits or limited memory, chatGPT tends to forget important details and specific responses. By applying custom instructions, users can provide detailed descriptions and expectations for chatGPT’s role and responses.

To enable custom instructions, users need to have chatGPT plus. They can access this feature by going to the settings in the beta section and enabling custom instructions. Once enabled, users will see a new tab called custom instructions.

In the custom instructions tab, users can define their own role or the role they want chatGPT to consider. They can also specify how chatGPT should respond to their requests. Both fields have a character limit of 1500.

Custom instructions are applied to every new conversation, and OpenAI uses this data to train its language models. Users can add their details and preferences, save the instructions, and see how chatGPT responds accordingly.

For example, users can ask chatGPT to respond to WordPress questions with the best solution and alternative solutions. This feature empowers users to get specific and tailored responses from chatGPT.

Custom instructions also consider the details users provide about themselves. For instance, if a user mentions their proficiency in PHP and JavaScript but lack of CSS skills, chatGPT will take this into account when providing code examples. This ensures that users receive code that aligns with their skills and preferences.

Custom instructions for chatGPT offer a powerful way to enhance user experience and obtain more accurate and personalized responses. OpenAI will continue to explore advanced custom instructions in the future.
