Hi, I’m Paul Dicki, the Video Instruction Manager and Apprenticeship Coordinator at Idaho State University’s Continuing Education and Workforce Training. In the past, I have given presentations on AI and specifically ChatGPT. After those presentations, I have received requests and questions about how to create an account or how to access ChatGPT. I’m making this video to help people with that process. So let’s get started.
The first thing I want to do is share my screen. I’m going to open my browser and go to google.com, the search engine. I’m going to search for ChatGPT. The top link is the official website for ChatGPT. I’m going to click on that link to get started.
On the website, it asks us to log in or sign up. Since most people watching this video do not have an account yet, they will want to sign up. So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to sign up with an email address. I’m going to use my ISU email, which is p.dicki@isu.edu. I’m going to continue with the sign-up process.
Apple suggests using a strong password, but you can use any password you want as long as it’s at least eight characters long. I’m going to use the suggested password. After that, it asks for verification through email. I’m going to check my email program for the verification email from OpenAI. It asks for my first name, last name, and date of birth to verify that I’m over 18. I’m going to provide that information.
Next, it asks for a phone number for additional verification. It sends a code to the phone number provided. After entering the code, I now have access to ChatGPT 3.5. Please note that the free account only allows access to ChatGPT 3.5, while ChatGPT 4 is available for paid accounts.
To summarize, to create an account and access ChatGPT, you will need to provide your email address, verify your email, provide your date of birth, and verify your phone number. These are the pieces of information required during the account creation process. Now you’re ready to start using ChatGPT. Thank you for watching this video, and I appreciate your attention.
