Google's Bard: The Rivalry with ChatGPT and the Future of AI

Google’s Bard has been officially released for quite a few days as an experiment, which is an exact copy of chatGPT. But which one is better? Watch till the end to find out.

Hello, Skynet AI Revolution here, and today we will answer if Google’s Bard will destroy market chat bots. This all started on November 30th, 2022, when chatGPT was officially released. The AI bot got 1 million users within the first week of its launch and now has over 100 million people. The company has been a huge success. The world got familiar with AI after chatGPT was released. Many experts tested it and did many experiments, and it produced numerous correct answers. Although the tasks it did weren’t perfect, they were accurate. Many bloggers made money by writing blogs based on chatGPT’s answers.

However, AI-generated content is easily distinguished, and such articles and blogs are either terminated or they won’t get any views. The point is, people needed quick answers. They didn’t want to search through many websites on Google. So when they had any questions or confusion, they used chatGPT instead of Google. AI was basically destroying Google, and they needed to make a move. They introduced their new chat bot, similar to chatGPT, which was known as Bard, and the rivalry officially began.

Was this step necessary? Yes, because chatGPT made Google’s revenue go down by a lot. You might be confused, so let’s delve deeper. You know those ads you see when using Google? Well, chatGPT stopped people from clicking on them. Those ads make Google a ton of money, like 208 billion dollars in 2021.

What makes chatGPT special is that it gives you a better search experience than Google. When you ask a question, it provides one answer without pushing a bunch of ads at you. However, it’s not always perfect with its answers. Sometimes it can be a bit off. But here’s the thing, chatGPT is super popular. It made headlines because so many people love talking to it and getting smart-sounding responses. Google’s not taking this sitting down though. They planned an event to show off their own AI improvements and how they’ll change things like search and maps. They showed their plan to launch Bard at this event.

The CEO, Sundar Pichai, told people to interact directly with their powerful language models, like chatting with a friend while searching. In fact, Google’s even working on a new search home page that combines chatting with a Google-made chat bot, similar to chatGPT, along with regular search results. They want to keep up with the excitement around chatGPT. Even though Google has done a lot with AI and research, chatGPT has captured people’s attention way more in just a few weeks.

But the way they thought Bard would work, it didn’t. Google’s Bard was considered a failure because it provided inaccurate responses. Well, they released a promotional video for Bard, but the chatbot gave the wrong answer to a question. As a result, investors got worried and wiped more than 100 billion dollars off Google’s parent company, Alphabet. The problem is that Microsoft has its own version of an AI-powered search engine called Bing, and people are afraid it might hurt Google’s business.

So when this mistake happened with Google’s chatbot, it made things even worse. Here’s what happened: Google’s chatbot called Bard was shown in a video answering a question about the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), but the answer it gave was actually wrong. The chatbot said the JWST took the very first pictures of a planet outside our solar system, but that’s not true. Experts, including an astrophysicist, noticed the mistake and pointed it out online. Google admitted the error and said it’s a reminder of the importance of testing new systems thoroughly.

However, two of Bard’s answers turned out to be correct. One was about the James Webb Space Telescope spotting green pea galaxies this year, and the other was about its images of a galaxy that’s over 13 billion years old. According to a recent blog post by Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, Bard relies on large language models and information from the internet to give fresh and high-quality responses. The mistake in the chatbot’s response could be because it used information from a NASA blog post that mentioned the JWST being used for the first time to image a planet outside our solar system directly.

Bard works using a type of artificial intelligence called a large language model. It’s like a computer version of how our brains work, and it learns by reading lots of text from the internet. But sometimes, this can cause the chatbot to repeat errors from the information it absorbs. So it was a bit of a rough start for Bard, but Google was determined to make it better before releasing it to the public.

Now it’s been a few weeks since I have been using Bard, and I don’t experience any issues. Bard has the latest information, unlike chatGPT, so it is a very handy AI tool. Bard is on the next level. It will bring some of the most important events lists that happen today. Bing does that too, but Bard is able to make the information conversational. I can command Bard to make the information conversational, for example. So I will have a fun time reading news. Bard is also able to read images, which is very helpful to us users. We can simply send it images and ask what’s going on in that image, and it will explain it to us. Maybe it’s not a big help, but sending images to this AI bot is really fun.

Overall, Bard is only out as an experiment right now, but it does have great potential. I think it is already on the same level as chatGPT to some degree. It has a character limit of 500,000 words, and after you bypass that limit, you can simply click the continue generating option to finish your answer or use the prompt continue. Bard is a powerful tool, and I suggest you use it as soon as you can. Google is finally making a great return with Bard.
