Exploring the Grand Prismatic Spring

Welcome to AI Learn Painting! In today’s video, let’s continue the journey through the beautiful national parks.

People often say that nature is the greatest artist, and Yellowstone National Park is definitely one of those places where you will truly believe the same when visiting.

I visited Yellowstone last summer and since I’m back, I’ve been creating paintings to replicate the nature’s beauty.

I have painted the Yellowstone Canyon, the Morning Glory Spring, West Thumb geysers, Yellowstone Lake, and a mountain trail on the way to Restful. However, there is one ultimate piece missing - the Grand Prismatic Spring.

This geothermal wonder paints the landscape with vibrant hues that seem almost unreal. Its brilliant shades of colors rolled together create a masterpiece that captivates the senses. It is definitely one of my favorite places in Yellowstone.

Today, I’m going to make a Grand Prismatic painting using a reference folder I took.

As you can see, the shades of the spring are not hard to paint at all. However, the most challenging aspect of the painting would be to match the color of the spring.

For a complete beginner, identifying and mixing the right color would also be the most difficult task. So, I’m going to learn from the master, Chai GPT, and ask a series of questions to get detailed step-by-step color mixing instructions.

My very first question is, what are the colors in the Grand Prismatic Spring? Chai GPT tells me that the colors typically range from deep blue in the center, transitioning to green, yellow, and orange, and finally to red around the edges.

Now, I need to know the specific shades of blue, green, yellow, and orange. Chai GPT provides some details, but I’m more focused on the type of bacteria that makes the color. So, I ask again, what shades of colors are closest to the colors in the Grand Prismatic painting?

Chai GPT suggests using Ultramarine Blue or Phthalo Blue for the blue color, and Sap Green with Phthalo Green for the green color. I mix them equally and get a beautiful deep blue and a green color that is close to turquoise.

For the yellow, orange, and red parts, I follow the instructions from Chai GPT and mix the colors accordingly. I make sure to blend the colors between transitions.

Now that I have the instructions, I start painting. I add some final touches, such as additional sprays and details to replicate the reference photo.

The entire process of mixing colors using Chai GPT’s instructions is not stressful at all. It’s actually quite helpful and makes the painting process smoother.

My takeaway from this painting process is that Chai GPT is really helpful in terms of color mixing. If you’re not happy with the answer, you can ask again or provide more information, and Chai GPT will adapt to the situation.

Creating art is not difficult at all. Everyone is an artist, and everyone can paint. Just follow your heart and start today. One brushstroke at a time.

I encourage each and every one of you to paint the Grand Prismatic Spring together with me. Use whatever tools and shades of colors you have. Let’s inspire and support each other on this creative journey.
