Hi everyone! By now, I’m guessing you’ve all heard of Chat JPT, the trending AI bot. But could Chat JPT really be our travel agent and plan a whole day abroad for us? We tested it out and let ChatGPT plan a full 24-hour itinerary for us in Malaga, Spain. And yep, we basically did everything it told us to do for a day. We gave ChatGPT a simple prompt to plan a full day for us, including places to eat and drink.
First, let me tell you why we chose Malaga. Malaga is Spain’s sixth-largest city and sits on the southern coast, known as the Costa Del Sol. It enjoys sunny and warm days throughout the year, making it a great destination for a long weekend getaway. For this trip, I stayed in a private room in Tall Hostels, which I highly recommend. The hostel is modern and centrally located in the old town.
ChatGPT recommended I start the day with breakfast, and it suggested a brunch place called Brunch It. Brunch It is a small chain that started in Bali and has multiple locations across Malaga. I had an acai bowl and an oatmeal latte to start the day. The food was delicious, and the place had a great vibe.
The first activity ChatGPT wanted me to do was to visit one of Malaga’s main tourist sites, the Alcazaba. This was one of my favorite things in Malaga. The Alcazaba is a fortress palace built in the 11th century by the Muslims and incorporates elements of the ancient Roman Theater. The site offers stunning views of Malaga and the harbor. I highly recommend taking the time to explore both the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, which is located higher up on the hill.
Af
ter visiting the Alcazaba, ChatGPT recommended I have lunch at El Pimpi, a Malaga institution. El Pimpi is known for its traditional Spanish cuisine and has a beautiful outdoor courtyard. I tried the boquerones (anchovies) and the salmorejo (cold tomato soup), which were delicious.
Next on the list was a visit to the Picasso Museum. Pablo Picasso, one of the world's most influential Cubist artists, was born in Malaga. The museum features an excellent collection of his works, including sculptures. I recommend pre-booking tickets to skip the regular queue.
After the museum, I explored the old town of Malaga. The old town is full of narrow streets, beautiful churches, and great tapas and wine bars. I enjoyed walking through Calle Larios, the main shopping street, and soaking in the Spanish charm.
To take a break from sightseeing, I walked through the beautiful Malaga Park, which features various plant species and fountains. It's a peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature.
Since I was in Malaga, I couldn't resist a visit to the beach. La Malagueta is the city's most famous beach, located near the old town. While the beach may not have the turquoise waters and soft sandy beaches of other destinations, it still offers a refreshing swim and palm tree-shaded areas to relax.
As the day was coming to an end, ChatGPT recommended watching the sunset from La Malagueta. However, the beach is not west-facing, so you can't actually see the sunset from there. Nonetheless, the beach still offers beautiful views and a pleasant atmosphere.
For dinner, ChatGPT recommended El Tintero, a traditional restaurant located a short cab ride away from the old town. However, I decided to go for tapas at one of the many tapas bars in the old town instead. The nightlife in Malaga is buzzing, and the tapas bars offer a great way to experience the local cuisine.
Overall, my experience using ChatGPT to plan a day in Malaga was a success. While AI may not replace thorough research, it was a fun way to explore the city and discover new places. I would give it a solid eight and a half out of ten. If you're planning a trip to Malaga, I hope this itinerary gives you some ideas for your visit. Enjoy your time in this beautiful city!
