Chad GPT is rolling out a new feature called custom instructions that allows you to customize it to better suit your personal needs. This update is an absolute game changer because it simply fixes one of the biggest pain points with chat bots.
Up until now, if you use ChatGPT, you know that they never carry information between conversations. You have to keep re-explaining the background every single time. However, with custom instructions, Chad GPT can actually build on previous chats instead of starting from scratch every time.
Here’s how it works: with custom instructions, you can provide one-time context that Chad GPT will remember for all future conversations. For example, if you’re a third-grade science teacher, you can give the chatbot instructions like ‘I teach third-grade science’ or ‘my students are ages 8 to 9 years old’. Chad GPT will keep that key context in mind whenever you ask questions later on.
And you could really just use this however you want to. This includes every possibility you can think of, like meal planning or grocery shopping. Instead of having to specify a recipe for a family of five every single time you ask it for dinner ideas, you can just set the number of servings once in the custom instructions. Every time you ask it for meal plans or a grocery shopping menu, it will always keep in mind that you’re designing it for a family of five.
Now, let’s talk about some potentially disruptive AI news. According to a new report from The New York Times, Google is testing out an AI tool that can automatically generate entire news articles from scratch, without any human reporting required. This tool, named Project Genesis, has been pitched to major news organizations like The New York Times, Washington Post, and News Corps.
The idea of using AI to automate basic reporting tasks seems like it could free up journalists’ time and resources. However, the idea of completely removing human oversight from the news writing process raises some red flags. Last year, CNET started quietly publishing AI-generated articles that ended up being riddled with errors, plagiarism, and factual inaccuracies. More than half had to be corrected after the fact. This cautionary tale shows the risks of unleashing AI to produce news copy without any quality control or fact-checking from human editors.
Moving on, let’s discuss the use of AI in policing. Recently, there has been news about police using AI to identify and apprehend alleged criminals. In New York, a system called Record the Cops analyzed historical traffic camera data and driving patterns to profile citizens based on their movements and routes. This AI flagged one driver as suspicious based purely on his prior travel patterns across state lines. The police tracked down the driver, found drugs in his car, and made an arrest. While this may seem like a win for AI assisting law enforcement, it raises unsettling implications about mass surveillance, privacy, and profiling.
The system can analyze millions of license plates per week, capturing granular data on vehicles’ movements. This passive tracking without drivers’ consent is alarming. Letting algorithms make inferences about people’s activities or alleged crimes based solely on where and when they drive feels like profiling on steroids. Algorithms often reflect embedded biases, and there is a risk of misuse or abuse of this technology.
Lastly, let’s explore the fascinating field of bioacoustics and how AI is helping researchers unlock new discoveries about animal communication. Scientists are using tiny microphones and recording devices to capture ultrasonic bat vocalizations in detail. AI-powered natural language processing algorithms analyze the bat recordings to identify patterns, meaning, and structure in their language. Similar techniques have been used to decode honeybee communication using body movements and vibrations.
These discoveries could help conserve habitats, reduce human-animal conflicts, and unlock empathy for other species. As AI becomes more powerful and capable, debates about its use in various fields will only grow bigger. It’s important to consider the ethical implications and potential risks before implementing AI-driven solutions.
