As a PhD student, I engage in extensive reading of books, research articles, reports, and classroom required readings. To expedite the process, I utilize chatGPT and AI to help summarize these materials in a matter of minutes. In this article, I will share two of my favorite methods.
The first method involves using chatGPT, which is widely known among users. However, it has certain limitations. To overcome these limitations, I employ a second method.
The second method involves using chat PDF, a tool that allows me to upload PDFs and obtain summaries without the need for manual copying and pasting. This method is particularly useful when dealing with longer texts that exceed the word limits of chatGPT.
To demonstrate the process, I provide a step-by-step guide. First, I select the relevant text from the book or article and copy it. Then, I paste it into chatGPT and request a summary. If the text exceeds the word limits, I utilize chat PDF to upload the PDF and obtain the summary.
Additionally, I share a bonus hack for those who prefer simplified language. By providing bullet points in easy language, the summaries become more accessible.
To further optimize the process, I combine the summaries into a single PDF file using the tools available in Acrobat Reader. This allows me to have all the summaries conveniently stored in one place.
Overall, these methods have significantly enhanced my ability to efficiently summarize books and articles. By utilizing chatGPT and chat PDF, I can quickly obtain concise summaries without compromising on the quality of the content.
