Hello and welcome to the Cloud Computing School YouTube channel. In this video, we will provide you with instructions on how to configure your OpenAI ChatGPT account. It is assumed that you have a paid plan for GPT4, but some of these instructions also apply for the GPT 3.5 free features.
To get started, visit the OpenAI website at https://chat.openai.com. Open your preferred web browser and navigate to the OpenAI homepage. Click the login button and choose to log in via a Microsoft, Google, or Apple account, or even use your own email. If you prefer to use a Microsoft account, click on the Microsoft Account option to proceed.
Once you have logged into your account, it is time to carry out a baseline configuration of the ChatGPT user interface. Start by clicking on the bottom left-hand corner three dots icon next to your name and click on ‘Settings and Beta’.
On the general tab, you can choose your UI theme and also have the ability to clear all chats created up to this point by clicking the clear button.
On the beta features tab, if you have a paid GPT4 plan, you have the option to enable the plugins and the Advanced Data Analysis option. Advanced Data Analysis, formerly known as Code Interpreter, allows ChatGPT to use third-party plugins and work with analyzing data from file uploads. Please note that uploaded files will not persist beyond a single session.
On the data controls tab, you can enable or disable the chat history and training option. Enabling this option allows you to save new chats on the specific web browser to your history and allow them to be used to improve OpenAI models. Unsaved chats will be deleted from OpenAI systems within 30 days. Please note that this setting does not sync across browsers or devices. You can also manage your shared links, which are links to ChatGPT discussions. Additionally, you can export your data and delete your account if needed.
As a last but important step, you should configure ChatGPT custom instructions. Again, click on the three dots icon next to your name and choose ‘Custom Instructions’. In the new window, you have the option to provide a description of up to 1,500 characters about what you would like ChatGPT to know about you to provide better responses. In a separate field, you can also provide a description of up to 1,500 words about how you would like ChatGPT to respond to your questions. Ensure that the ‘Enable for new chats’ control is enabled and then click ‘Save’.
You can now start chatting with the ChatGPT model and engage in a full discussion with it. If you need to share any of your chat sessions at a later time with external users, click on the top right-hand icon named ‘Share Chat’. This will pop up a form in which you can optionally change the chat name and click on the ‘Copy Link’ button to get a link which provides a read-only version of your chat to external users.
You are now ready to start making use of the generative AI capabilities of the OpenAI ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT for models. In other videos, we will be covering prompt engineering techniques and how-to instructions for ChatGPT plugins and Advanced Data Analysis.
