Building an App to Help Build Habits

Building an App to Help Build Habits

Hey guys, let’s have a look at the progress I’m making with the app that I’m building. Okay, feel free to pause this at any point if you want to read the text.

So, this is me describing to GPT4 last Saturday, nearly a week ago, the app that I want to make. The working title is ‘My Habit Pal’, which is obviously a play on MyFitnessPal for anyone who knows that app. It’s an app to help you build habits by tracking the amount of time you spend on given habits. Anyone who’s watched my channel knows how this relates to my own life and how it would be useful to me.

So, we get started and a little while later, here is a demo within Xcode. You can see this is the very basic outline of what it’s going to look like and how it’s going to work. Now, this is a funny thing. We had a little breakthrough and I was like, ‘Do you want to say anything to celebrate?’ And GPT4 starts using emojis, which I’ve never seen before.

I noticed that I started to feel a bit of an attachment to it. I felt a little bit like Joaquin Phoenix in ‘Her’. You know, I think this is the thing that we’re going to contend with in the years to come, where it’s a little bit strange. Like, you’re appreciating this being that you’re working with. You know, have a lovely evening, pal.

And yeah, this is later on and it says it uses more emojis after I kind of congratulated it. Now, I realized today I could use code interpreter, which is an update, and I felt a little bit bad about doing this. So, this is me explaining. I say, ‘Your colleague’, and this is after me calling it ‘pal’ and everything. I’m like, getting rid of it and working with code interpreter. And it’s like, okay, cool, let’s do this. I felt a little bit guilty.

And then code interpreter can do stuff like represent images. So, that was an image of an idea for a progress chart. And I said, ‘Let’s make it sexier’, and it shows me that, which isn’t great. I was like, it’s not brilliant, but it said we can do this in Xcode. So, this is where we’ve gotten to so far, after a few days of work.

You can add in money in Spanish, one of my habits at the minute. Adding in a podcast is the potential. I’m potentially gonna relaunch my podcast. And then you can see, you go in and there’s a clock, and you can leave and you can go into another one. You probably wouldn’t be doing two things at once like that, but you could if you want because you can go and pause one. Or maybe they’d coalesce.

And then this is the progress, which is just getting started. And then this is code interpreter, and I hadn’t told it anything about emojis, but then we’re saying goodnight to each other. Goodbye, and he uses an emoji. So, I don’t know if that’s Chachi PT overall, kind of learning what I like, or it’s just doing that spontaneously. Not too clear.

But there you go, that was a quick teaser of what I’ve been working on and some of the things I’ve been experiencing. There’s been much, much more to it than that. I’m learning lots of things to do with it, like pushing your code to GitHub and how to work with Chachi BT GPT4 code interpreter, whatever you want to call it. There are clear methods to working with it, and it tends to forget things, and you have to know how to remind it as efficiently as possible.

Yeah, there’s this idea of, is it an AI Whisperer or an LLM Whisper that’s going around? Or like knowing how to talk to these things. And I think I can see how that’s definitely a skill worth acquiring these days.

So yeah, I’m gonna build this app, see how far I can bring it. I’m not sure if I can use that title because I’m not sure if MyFitnessPal would have an issue with it. But anyway, I just thought I’d show you some of my work. This is something I’m doing. I’ve done two hours pretty much every day since I finished the job, and I’d start working on it the weekend before that.

Um, so yeah, I’m gonna get this to completion, and I will leave it there for now.
