I recently had an AI write an entire adventure novel for me. I spent a whole day collaborating with the AI, going back and forth to develop an extended outline and then write a novel based on that outline. The story revolves around a scientist named Maya who encounters a mysterious man with extensive knowledge about the city of Atlantis. Maya embarks on a scuba mission and discovers a peculiar liar that seems to have chosen her as the only one who can play it and potentially restore balance to Atlantis.
While I was impressed with the AI’s ability to generate a complete story, it did have its limitations. In this article, I will discuss the story, the aspects I liked, and the elements that didn’t quite match up.
The book starts in third person, with scenes described as if they were summaries. It felt more like a visual direction rather than a reading experience. However, Maya’s character development and her diving expedition were intriguing. The AI came up with creative lines and descriptions, such as Maya’s expression being described as a ‘cocktail of doubt and curiosity.’
As the story progresses, Maya and the mysterious man, Orion, go on a diving expedition to underwater caves believed to lead to Atlantis. They encounter equipment malfunctions due to energy interference, which is later revealed to be caused by a crystal at the heart of Atlantis. The AI’s portrayal of underwater creatures and the assistance they provide added an enjoyable element to the story.
One aspect that didn’t quite work was the dialogue. The AI’s limitations became evident in the cliché and cheesy lines. While understandable given the AI’s training, it did affect the overall quality of the dialogue. Additionally, some scenes lacked depth and relied more on telling rather than showing the development of relationships and emotions.
The story takes a turn when Maya starts playing the liar, and Atlantis becomes a maze. Dolphins guide her, and she encounters various challenges. The AI’s creativity shines in these scenes, but the execution of the challenges and the characters’ reactions could have been better.
The climax of the story involves Maya and Orion facing treacherous obstacles and a betrayal. The AI’s attempt to create tension and suspense was commendable, but the execution fell short. The resolution of the conflict and the unity of the Atlanteans through song were interesting concepts, but they lacked the impact they could have had with better development.
In conclusion, while the AI-generated adventure novel had its flaws, it was still an impressive feat. The AI’s ability to create a complete story with characters, plot, and settings is noteworthy. However, the limitations in dialogue, character development, and emotional depth affected the overall reading experience. If I were to rate this novel, I would give it one and a half stars out of five. If you’re curious, you can find a free copy of the novel in the description. I would love to hear your thoughts if you decide to read it. Thank you for watching!
